- On your windows 98/ME/2000/XP, click on Start->Run…
- On your windows vista/Windows 7, click on Start->Search, type run
- Enter “cmd” without quotes and click on OK
- Type the following:
- telnet yourdomain.com 25 (replace yourdomain.com with your domain)
If you get the message:
could not open connection to the host, on port 25: connect failed
then port 25 is probably blocked by your ISP/Firewall and you may not be able to send email using mail.yourdomain.com. You will be forced to use the SMTP provided by your ISP.
Solution: Some hosting providers provided an alternative solution that switched the smtp port from 25 to 26/587. For more information please contact your hosting provider directly.
